Description

Zanthoxylum bungeanum Maxim. is a member of the evergreen and deciduous trees and shrubs of the citrus (Rutaceae) family that is native to China, where it is mainly used as a condiment and oilseed crop. Although the popularity of Z. bungeanum as a condiment is relatively low outside of China, its medicinal value merits attention. This species has been used as an ancient herbal medicine in China, and its pericarp shows anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial activities, relieves arthritis, protects against gastric mucosal damage, lowers blood lipid levels, regulates antithrombotic effects, and enhances immunity.
