Description
Scutellaria baicalensis, or Chinese skullcap, is a wellknown medicinal plant that is cultivated worldwide for its therapeutic properties. The dried root of S. baicalensis has been used as a traditional medicine for more than 2000 years in China, where it is called Huang Qin. Huang Qin is used for treatment of bitter, cold, liver, and lung problems as recorded by Shennong Bencao Jing. The bioactivities of the root flavonoids of S. baicalensis include antibacterial, antiviral, antioxidant, anticancer, hepatoprotective, and neuroprotective properties.
