Description
Datura stramonium, the annual herb, produces the highest concentration of tropane alkaloids. Scopolamine, atropine (hyoscyamine), and anisodamine are the main tropane alkaloids of D. stramonium. Scopolamine and atropine historically have been used for asthma, rheumatism and as spasmolytic drugs. In fact, scopolamine is one of the essential active medical compounds according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
