Description
Hypericum perforatum, known as perforate St John's-wort, is a flowering plant in the family Hypericaceae and the type species of the genus Hypericum. Extracts of H. perforatum aerial parts contain many substances, among which hypericin, hyperforin, and melatonin are the main characteristic components. Phloroglucinol hyperforin is among the most effective antidepressant biomolecules. H. perforatum is a valuable representative because of its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and anti-depressant activity.
